Do you have a broken, excessively worn out tooth, or a large portion of a tooth destroyed by tooth decay? The handy solution for an excessively cracked tooth is to get a dental crown or cap to cover the damaged tooth. Strengthen and restore your tooth back to its original shape with the help of Dr. Vaune Wenzinger. Dr. Wenzinger also offers Same Day Crowns using CAD/CAM technology.
What a Crown isA crown (cap) is a restoration that is placed on teeth that have lost a lot of their structure. There are many different types of crowns: full porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, full metal crowns. Your dentist will explain the advantages and disadvantages of each kind for you.
The Process of Making a CrownThe process of making a crown includes many steps that start in our office with preparing the teeth and taking impressions from the tooth/teeth involved. Then a temporary crown or bridge is placed on your teeth.
The impressions are sent to the lab. In the lab a mold of the teeth is poured and the work begins.
There are multiple steps and different technicians work on the mold to fabricate a crown or bridge. The completed work is sent back to the office and after necessary checks and adjustments it is cemented onto your teeth.
Crowns Versus FillingsA dental filling isn't as strong as a dental crown and may chip over time. A dental crown is more precise and reinforced thanks to its rigid encapsulation. Every crown is produced after a careful visualization and examination of all aspects of your bite and jaw movements from a variety of angles then sculpted to your dental crown. It gives you a close replica of your original tooth structure.
How Tooth Restoration is PossibleThe goal is to eliminate a large damaged part (tooth decay) and completely replace the surface with a crown. The best material for crowns is porcelain. Porcelain dental crowns are used to idealize the cosmetic appearance of a tooth so the crown isn't noticeably lighter or darker than the rest of your teeth. Dr. Wenzinger provides different types of crowns such as full porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, zirconium crown, full gold crowns and many other kinds of crowns. If you lead a busy lifestyle having little or no time to spare for second appointments, opt for Cerec crowns and onlays which are conveniently completed in just one dental visit. For missing teeth, replace them with bridges, a non removable prosthesis with a pontic or "dummy tooth" that bridges the gap of the missing tooth.
